Becoming SAFE Certified
Forestry workers and/or employers in the BC forest or forest product sectors are eligible to become SAFE certified. It takes commitment, completion of training, and a sufficient safety management system (with successful audit) to become a SAFE certified company.

Building Your Safety Program
With a good safety management system, it takes four to six weeks to become SAFE certified. A small employer can become certified in as little as 48 hours, while a large employer with a deficient system and need for a external audit may require a year or more.

Maintaining SAFE
A company must submit an audit every year to stay SAFE. To avoid a lapse in certification, recertification audits must be submitted before the SAFE certification expiry date. Recertification and maintenance audits use the same form as the certification audit, but using records covering the time period (the last 12 months) since the previous audit.

The COR program encourages employers to create an occupational health and safety management system that goes beyond current legal requirements. The voluntary program recognizes employers that are proactive about improving workplace safety, and dedicated to continual improvement. The BCFSC is a Certifying Partner for the COR Program.
