Basic Chainsaw Operator Training

This course educates participants in safe work procedures and saw handling principles necessary to safely operate a chainsaw. While developed for the forest industry, the course is open to anyone.

This basic training does NOT qualify participants to produce bucking cuts on steep terrain nor to fall trees, where more advanced skills training is required.

This course is available in English only. Participants will receive a wallet card and record of completion after successfully finishing the course.

Learning Outcomes

  • After completing this training, you should be able to:
  • Identify related Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Perform essential saw maintenance, correct chain filing procedures and safe cutting techniques
  • Identify bucking and limbing hazards and complete basic chainsaw bucking cuts on level terrain in forestry operations and similar activities, and for completing basic chainsaw cuts in manufacturing plants

Duration & Delivery

Sessions cover two days. The focus is primarily on in-field hands on training, with limited classroom time.
