2015-04-06 - Pickup Truck Driver

Fatality Alert

On April 6th, a forestry worker was fatally injured when he was struck by a pickup truck on a resource road in the Smithers area. Two trucks were traveling together when the first driver pulled over and stepped outside of the truck. The truck that was following collided with the parked truck and the worker.

Resource road (RR) radio channels and call protocols have changed and the switch over has already occurred in some regions of British Columbia. Additional regions will be implementing the switch over through the remainder of 2015 and possibly the first quarter of 2016. Contact your local Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (FLNRO) office or call FrontCounter BC at 1-877-855-3222 to find out when the change will be happening in your area.

It is Road Safety at Work Week in BC!

From March 2-6, all employers and workers are asked to create awareness around road safety at work.

On average in BC each year, 23 workers die in work-related motor vehicle incidents and more than 1,200 are injured.

Distracted driving is a key factor. The BC Forest Safety Council co-sponsored this radio ad across the province to help spread the safety message.

Because on the road, the smartest phone is off!
